Behind the Scenes at LIT 65- Committees

Feb

LIT 65 has been thwarted once again- perhaps fitting given the Heroes VS. Villains theme- but this time our committee members stepped up to defend the tournament against the mischievous Lommy Tux. Lommy Tux targeted the committees one by one until he was finally defeated and thrown out- LIT can go on! Our committees are the magic behind LIT, with over 80 students involved on committees like media, decorations, admissions and more. With lots of hard work LIT is made possible by our committees, so it's a good thing Lommy Tux was stopped!

Teacher Heroes Save LIT

Feb
09

Some local heroes from Luther- Mr. Hunter as Batman and Mr. Graf as Robin- took on villains who stole the LIT basketball this past week. Bane (aka Mr. Becker) thwarted the two heroes alongside Lex Luthor (Mr. Hall). In an epic battle, our heroes were left vanquished, the LIT basketball remained in the hands of the devious Bane and his accomplices. Perhaps our heroes will climb out of their sticky situation this weekend at LIT, which started this afternoon. Stay tuned, LIT 65 is well underway with three full days of basketball ahead.

LIT History

Jan

This year marks the 65th LIT! This tournament is the longest running high school sports tournament in Canada. As a tribute to its longevity, it was inducted into the Regina Sports Hall of Fame as a Patron of Basketball last summer. The very first LIT was held in 1953 resulting from the efforts of Mr. John Chomay, the athletic director and Senior Boys basketball coach at Luther College High School. The one day tournament hosted sixteen teams who played cross-court games in what is now called the Merlis Belsher Heritage Center.

The final day of the 64th annual L.I.T. was full of excitement, spirit and celebration. The Banquet at the Travelodge was a wonderful event for the teams, staff, coaches and committee members, with an inspiring speech from this year’s special guest Debbie Ward and a Star Wars impersonation contest. The seventh and eighth place game began at 12:30 in the Merlis Belsher Heritage Centre or the old gym. February 13, 2016 marked an important day in the history of the tournament, as both the new and old facilities were used by both boys and girls teams.
